JKCs In Orissa from next year

An official delegation from the Government of Orissa visits Andhra Pradesh to study the concept of Jawahar Knowledge Centers and the Special Training Program of the Government of Andhra Pradesh on July 16th and July 17th, 2008. The highlights of the visit are as follows.

1. Delegation from the Government of Orissa included:
·   Mr. Pradeepta Kumar Mahopatra IAS, Commissioner and Secretary Higher Education Government of Orissa
·        Mr. A. K. Panda, Head IT, Promotions Cell, Department of IT, Government of Orissa
·        Mr. D.K.Samal, DGM OCAC Department of IT, Government of Orissa.

2. The delegation was received by officers from the Institute for Electronic Governance, Government of Andhra Pradesh. The officers included:
·        Mr. Amarnath Reddy Atmakuri, CEO, Institute for Electronic Governance.
·        Mr. M. Chandrasekhar, Director (Academic Affairs), Institute for Electronic Governance
·        Mr. Caleb Manne, Special Officer, Institute for Electronic Governance.
·        Mr. Marri Laxman Reddy, Chairman of MLR Institute of Technology (A Star JKC Center and STP venue)

3. Presentation to the delegation:
* Mr. Amarnath Reddy Atmakuri, CEO of the Institute for Electronic Governance made a presentation to the delegation on the Jawahar Knowledge Center at the MLR Institute of Technology, Dundigal, Ranga Reddy district. Mr. Amarnath Reddy explained the concept of the Jawahar Knowledge Centers and how they came into being in December 2004.                Mr. Reddy explained the expansion of Jawahar Knowledge Centers to cover over 700 Engineering and Degree colleges all over the state.
* Mr. Amarnath Reddy also explained how the concept of STP was created in the state of Andhra Pradesh to benefit the SC, ST, BC and Minority sections in providing them employment in the MNCs. The delegation was happy to see that 94 of the 99 candidates got selected in top MNCs.

4. Observations by the Orissa delegation:
* Mr. Pradipta Kumar Mahopatra IAS, Commissioner and Secretary Higher Education and Information Technology, Government of Andhra Pradesh spoke to the JKC students and STP students on this occasion.
* He conveyed his deep appreciation to the Government of Andhra Pradesh for initiating Jawahar Knowledge Center and Special Training Program initiatives through Institute for Electronic Governance.
* He underlined the role of JKCs in promoting educational & economic development in A.P and envisaged creating a valuable link between IEG and Government of Orissa.
* Mr. Mahopatra spent considerable time with the students of the Special Training Program that caters to the SC, ST, BC and Minority students.
* Mr. Mahopatra emphasized the need for such programs in Orissa that has over 42% of the population under SC and ST category. He appreciated the Government of Andhra Pradesh for pioneering several efforts in the education and employment generation efforts.

5. Setting up of JKC and STP programs in Orissa:
* Government of Orissa delegation requested the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Institute for Electronic Governance to setup a JKC and STP frame work in Orissa.
* Government of Andhra Pradesh and Institute for Electronic Governance expressed willingness to help establish JKC and STP programs in the state of Orissa during August time frame. Andhra Pradesh would send a team to help start the programs in Orissa.

6. Other visits by the Orissa delegation: In addition to the JKC center and STP center at the MLR Institute of Technology, Dundigal, the delegation also visited the Special Training Program at the Haj House.
