Several other states in India have
approached us for implementing the JKC concept in their states. It
gives me immense pleasure when a scheme launched three years ago has
matured to benefit lakhs of students every year and gained national
attention in such a short period of time. |

India has over 2 crores of qualified Engineers
which is more than the population of several countries. Our state
alone produces more than 4.5 lakh graduates every year from over
2,000 colleges. Jawahar Knowledge Center concept was created to
ensure proper employment to all these graduates.
JKC is a unique concept started in Andhra Pradesh to train all
students for employment opportunities. Several other states in India
have approached us for implementing the JKC concept in their states.
It gives me immense pleasure when a scheme launched three years ago
has matured to benefit lakhs of students every year and gained
national attention in such a short period of time.
JKC has created a solid platform for Industry, Academic Institutions
and Government to collaborate. I must congratulate all the industry
players in making the JKC program a huge success. I urge the
students to avail the opportunity and use JKC as a platform for
building an excellent career and a strong nation. |

Creating employment
opportunities have to go hand in hand with generating quality human
resources. The JKC program started by our Honorable Chief Minister, Dr.
Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy is first of its kind initiative started in
India.
|
 |
|
|
Jawahar Knowledge Center has been set up in
collaboration with the Industry. JKC provides a way for students to be
industry grade and readily employable before their graduation.
Under the able leadership of Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the employment
opportunities rose significantly over the last 3 years. During the
period 2003-04, Andhra Pradesh employed about 85 thousand in the IT
sector. As per 2006-07, the IT employment in the state is about 1 lakh
87 thousand. Our IT exports rose from around Rs. 5,000 crores in 2003-04
to above Rs 18,500 Crores in 2006-07. The IT investments in the state
rose from Rs 684 Crores in 2003-04 to Rs. 1,900 Crores in 2006-07. We
have attracted several IT giants and MNCs such as HSBC, Bank of America,
Mc Graw Hill, Patni, Sonata, Cognizant, Conexant, UBS, Amazon.com,
Intelligroup, Qualcomm, Novartis, Siemens, Wells Fargo, Celestica,
Unisys, Tishman Speyer, Genpact, HCL and several others.
For the first time in Andhra Pradesh, the IT majors are expanding their
operations in Tier-II cities such as Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada,
Tirupathi, Warangal and Anantapur as well. Major companies such as
Infosys, Microsoft, Satyam, Wipro, TCS and Genpact have established
their centers in Tier-II cities. Several others are coming forward and
we are encouraging the expansion of IT in Tier-II cities.
Creating employment opportunities have to go hand in hand with
generating quality human resources. The JKC program started by our
Honorable CM, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy is first of its kind
initiative started in India. The team at IEG is doing a great job in
running the Jawahar Knowledge Centers and I wish them all the best. |

I am privileged to be
present during a JKC felicitation function wherein a beedi worker’s
daughter obtained placement in a major multi national company. The fate
of the whole family changed just because of JKC. Likewise, lives of many
rural and poor families have taken a new dimension as a result of JKCs

Andhra Pradesh is in pursuit of aggressive growth
plans for investments. We have established several SEZs. We are in the
process of creating a $10 to $12 Billion dollar hardware and EMS
manufacturing industry over the next two years. We have attracted
several IT/ ITES companies into Hyderabad and even into two tier cities
like Visakhapatnam. Our IT exports have more than tripled in the last
three years. The employment opportunities in our state more than
quadrupled over the last three years. All this is a testimony to the
leadership and vision of our Honorable Chief Minister, Dr. Y. S.
Rajasekhara Reddy.
Jawahar Knowledge Centers are started to bridge the gap between Industry
and Educational Institutions. I am privileged to be present during a JKC
felicitation function wherein a beedi worker’s daughter obtained
placement in a major multi national company. The fate of the whole
family changed just because of JKC. Likewise, lives of many rural and
poor families have taken a new dimension as a result of JKCs.
My heart is full of joy when I congratulate the IEG team in undertaking
this noble task and more recently expanding the JKC platform to cover
over 600 Degree and Engineering colleges across the state. I wish them
all the best.

A.P has made significant strides in the Education area. For the First
time n 60 years, an IIT is coming to our state. We are establishing 3
IITs under Rajiv Gandhi University for Knowledge Technology 3 JNTU
colleges, 8 Universities and over a dozen 21st Century Gurukulams across
the stare. Our education initiatives are geared primerly to benefit the
rural students towords participatory and suitable development.
I had a chance to visit all the Universities along with the IEG team and
address the principal and management of the various colleges around the
state. There is tremendous excitement in the Engineering and Degree
Colleges to take up the JKC Programme. JKC was piloted with 1,000 female
students on the Engineering side in 2004. JKC now covers 600 Engineering
as well as Degree streams and is targeting over 21 lakh students every
year.
I congratulate IEG on conducting the Jawahar Knowledge Centers and

As a society promoted by Government of Andhra
Pradesh, IEG is doing pioneering work in upgrading skills of students
under JKC and other initiatives in the State. Some of these initiatives
are expected to go in a long run to make fresh graduates technically and
professionally competent to avail ever increasing opportunities in IT/ITES
sectors.
It is worthwhile to mention that the IT sector in Andhra Pradesh is
growing at a healthy pace of 48.4% per annum in comparison to current
National Average of 32% similarly, 40 sectors specific IT/ITES SEZs are
under different stages of implementation in the State. There is spurt of
IT activities not only in and around Hyderabad but most of other cities
and towns such as Visakhapatnam, Warangal, Vijayawada, Kakinada,
Tirupati and Kadapa. The state is witnessing unparalleled growth
opportunities.
I am sure that IEG would continue to do outstanding work and I wish all
the officers and employees associated with IEG a great future. |

Jawahar Knowledge Center is an initiative that brings
Industry and Academia together to address a problem related to students,
colleges, careers, employment and Economy.
JKC operates through a partnership model involving colleges to provide
infrastructure, industry contributing tools, technologies and faculty
enablement and the government providing the necessary financial support.
JKC provides good learning environment in colleges to impart industry
grade and employable skills and also address the problem of rural urban
divide and gender inequity. Even as a district collector, I was
providing programs and schemes to address the urban rural divide and
gender inequity.
I had an opportunity to inaugurate a JKC at Lakkireddy Balreddy college
in Mylavaram and offer several E-governance projects from government to
JKC students of several colleges. JKC program offers great hope in
matching people to careers by imparting the right kind of skills.
I appreciate IEG in their continued efforts in expanding the Jawahar
Knowledge Centers. |

The IT industry in India is seeing robust growth.
This means there are more opportunities for employment now available
than a decade ago. The opportunities provided by this growth have also
presented a unique set of challenges to the industry. As India moves
towards being a global leader in Information Technology, both the
engineering colleges and the IT industry are realizing the need to scale
up students to meet the growing demands of the IT industry.
Realizing the need for 'industry-ready' professionals, Infosys has aimed
at creating platforms that facilitate industry-academia interactions.
Towards this objective, Institute of Electronic Governance (IEG) has
shown extraordinary drive and initiative in rolling out several programs
through the Jawahar Knowledge Centers. Infosys commends the efforts put
in by the IEG team which has successfully launched the Campus Connect
program across a very large set of colleges in Andhra Pradesh. IEG had
also piloted Aspirations2020, a knowledge event series, for students to
learn through alternate ways in colleges in Andhra Pradesh in 2007.
I extend my greetings to IEG and the entire team and wish them great
success in achieving their objectives. |

Over the past few years, JKC has set a
benchmark in substantially increasing IT employability through in depth

IBM has a rich and long heritage of partnering with
and enriching the communities which we operate in globally. We have
rolled out one of the largest portfolio of programs ranging from
collaborative research to curriculum advancement for universities in
India. IBM has strong programs to work with faculty and students to
transform them into innovators and make them industry ready by providing
them indepth understanding of emerging technology skills and industry
perspective.
We are proud to be associated with Jawahar Knowledge Centre (JKC) right
from its inception, which is a laudable initiative to minimise not only
the digital divide, but also to even the opportunities gap between the
rural and urban students. The JKC initiative is an innovative effort by
the Government of Andhra Pradesh to bring together top talent from
across the state and offer them opportunities they deserve, backed up
with specialized soft skills. Over the past few years, JKC has set a

AP Govt. joining hands with industry and Universities have come up with
the novel concept of Jawaha Knowledge Centers (JKC). These JKC's, in
short, act as a bridge - that builds the gap between what you study in
your college and what the industry needs when you join the Corporate
world.

We are fortunate to be living at this time when the
technology revolution is at its best. This enables us with multiple
benefits right from convenience of living to better job opportunities.
Thus there are ample job opportunities that await you. But there have
been a gap between the expectation of the industry and the level of
knowledge of graduating students due to the ever changing technology.
AP Govt. joining hands with industry and Universities have come up with
the novel concept of Jawaha Knowledge Centers (JKC). These JKC's, in
short, act as a bridge - that builds the gap between what you study in
your college and what the industry needs when you join the Corporate
world.
Due to the active participation of all the three parties involved, JKC's
have been very successful. I have been priviledged to be associated with
JKC, right from the conception stage. JKC's have had a head start and
been doing well to ensure that the graduating students land up with a
decent job within reasonable time.
As a student, you need to focus on developing and maintaining domain
expertise, knowledge of the industry, good communication skills and view
of the market to some extent. These not only will help you get a job,
but also will enable you to stay ahead of others at all times.
JKC is a very successful venture. To keep it that way, your contribution
is essential and we look forward to your active involvement & commitment
to the cause of JKC.
Wishing JKC all the very best for success.
I take this opportunity to wish each one of you best of luck for a good
job and a successful career ahead.
